Ondo Amotekun arraigned man over illegal possession of dane gun

Operatives of the Amotekun Corps have arraigned a herder, Awayu Muhammed before an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly possessing a dane gun.

Muhammed, whose address was not provided, was charged with possession of dane gun.

The prosecuting counsel, P.O Nwafor told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 23, at about 7p.m, at the Ondo State Government reserve, Ayede Ogbese, Akure North Local Government area.

The prosecutor alleged that Muhammed had in his possession with a dane gun with live cartridges, without a valid license from the appropriate authority.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offense levelled against him, while his counsel, O. Oladapo, pleaded for his bail in the most Liberal term, saying that granting bail for the defendant was a constitutional right.

The Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case to May 19,  for hearing.
