Ondo Amotekun arraigns two drivers over alleged theft

The Ondo Amotekun Corps has arraigned two drivers before an Akure Magistates’ Court for allegedly stealing plumbing materials valued at N2million.

The defendants, Abdul-Razak Mustapha and Isiaka Lukman were arraigned on two-count charges of conspiracy and stealing.

Prosecuting Counsel, N.J. Osiele informed the court that the defendants committed the offences on January  25, 2025 along the Lagos-Ore expressway, Ore, Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State.

Osiele alleged that drivers who were entrusted to convey a haulage of plumbing materials belonging to one Adewumi Ayodeji conspired with others at large, diverted and stole part of the materials.

The items stolen were:  2 fancy water closets valued at N450,000, 6 pieces of ceramic basin valued at N900,000, 6 LED mirrors valued at N234,000, 1 set of dual flush water closets valued at N227,000, 3 home basins valued at N130,000 and 2 home tank valued at N210,000, total valued at N2million

The prosecutor explained that the fraudulent act was discovered when the goods were delivered to the owner, as the defendants claimed they were involved in a ghastly accident at Ogere area, Ibadan Expressway.

The offence according to the charge contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The prosecutor requested an adjournment for more time to review the case file.

Magistrate T.I. Ayodele-James granted N100,000 bail to each suspect, with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till February 27, 2025 for hearing.
