Ondo Amotekun debunks privatisation claims

By Tola Gbadamosi

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has debunked a publication titled, “Amid Amotekun Operatives’ Pleas for Support, Ondo Governor Contracts Private Security Outfit to Take Over Security Firm’s Function.”

This was made known to The Hope Metro in a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Jimoh Adeniken, which stated that the government dissociates itself from the circulating publication claiming that it attempted to enlist the services of Global Olabod Resources Limited. The information being circulated is unsubstantiated.

The statement added that the Corps and all security agencies in the state, including the Ondo Police Command, the Army, the Navy, the DSS, and the Civil Defence, are working tirelessly with the support of Governor Aiyedatiwa to ensure peace and tranquillity for the citizens of Ondo State.

The Security Corps further stated that its operatives will leave no stone unturned as they work robustly with other agencies to guarantee peace and the safety of lives and property for Ondo State residents.

This follows a report by Sahara Reporters speculating that the Ondo Amotekun Corps will be privatised.

SAHARA Reporters cited a PUNCH newspaper article which claimed that, during a recent meeting in Idanre Local Government Area, Debo Ariyo, representing Eniola Ogunbodede, the chairman of the partnering organisation, outlined the governor’s plan to employ a private security firm to protect farmers’ interests. This has further intensified speculation about the state’s commitment to the Amotekun Corps.
