Ondo Amotekun parades 21 suspected criminals

By Tola Gbadamosi

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has paraded 21 suspects linked to various breaches of peace across the state over the past fortnight, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring safety and stability in the region.

While presenting the suspects, Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye informed journalists that the arrests involved individuals implicated in kidnapping, violations of the anti-open grazing law, and other criminal activities affecting security in the state.

“The suspects were apprehended through the relentless efforts of the Yuletide 24/7 patrol and the specialized armored rangers deployed to combat the rising security challenges, particularly in rural and forested areas,” Adeleye stated.

The roundup includes four alleged kidnappers, five individuals accused of violating the anti-open grazing law, and 12 others charged with offenses such as theft, assault, and attempted murder.

One particularly troubling case involves a suspect who reportedly used a rod and pestle to knock unsuspecting motorcycle riders unconscious before stealing their motorcycles.

Additionally, authorities arrested a man found handcuffed, whose unexplained captivity is now under investigation to identify the security agency responsible for his initial detention.

The authorities also reported success in mitigating violent clashes between farmers and herders, emphasizing ongoing dialogue to reduce tensions.

Farmers have been reassured of protection for their farmlands, while herders have been warned against crop destruction.

Despite these incidents, officials maintain that the state remains relatively peaceful, with border violations significantly reduced thanks to Amotekun’s swift actions.

They urged the public to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and actionable information through the state’s distress call line, 0807999989.
