Men of the Ondo State security network, Amotekun yesterday rescued six kidnapped undergraduates travelling to Abuja from Lagos.

The Hope gathered that the victims were abducted by unknown gunmen around Ikaramu in Akoko North West Local Government area of the state.

The victims which include three males and three females were said to have been abducted for four days before they were rescued.

Narrating their experiences, one of the victims, Gbenga Sunday said it seems the driver was part of the kidnappers, due to his antics.

“When we got to somewhere in Akoko, we didn’t know where the driver was going, he was pretending as if he had missed the way. We were going around for several hours which made me to check my Google map. That was when we realised that we were off the road completely.

“By the time we were trying to turn back to the appropriate direction, eight armed and masked men came out from the forest and barricaded the road. Before we knew what was going on, we have to start driving back to where we were coming from.

“They dragged us all out and marched six of us into the forest. While with them, we roamed around the place for up to 30mins. We kept moving from one location to another almost immediately.

“For the four days, we were fed with roasted yam or cassava, with red oil and salt. The food was placed on a bag of garri on the floor for us.

“We have no choice but to eat what was given to us in order to gain strength to walk the long journey into the thick forest.

“The men seem to really know the area very well. Any attempt to run, they got us. That was why we decided to remain with them.

We got somewhere where people were walking pass us and never made any remark but later that day, men of Amotekun corps and local vigilantes came to the location and overpowered the kidnappers and rescued us from them.

The Ondo state Commander Amotekun Akogun Adetunji Adeleye explained that “We got a call that some people have been apprehended.

“We got their location which showed that they were somewhere around Akoko.

“We were there for almost two days, mounting pressure on them. We did lots of tracking to get to their location.

I want to urge people that when they see something they should say something. That will help us more to have adequate results,” the Amotekun boss warned.

In a related development, combined Security agencies in the state yesterday embarked on a joint show of force patrol in Akure and Owo axis of the state.

The joint patrol was organised by the Police, Army, Amotekun, NSCDC, the DSS and the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA to fortify the ongoing Operation ‘Gba le Gba’ko’ in the state.

The Hope gathered that the exercise was part of inter-agencies’ commitments to ensure that the state is crime free and part of measures to alert criminal minded people to steer clear of Ondo state.
