The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has refuted claims that the party lacks internal democracy, dismissing such statements from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is currently grappling with internal turmoil and declining membership.
The ruling APC in the state clarified that the individuals who reportedly defected to the PDP are unknown to them and that their departure will not impact the APC’s prospects in the upcoming November 16 governorship election.
The State Director of Media and Publicity of the party, Mr. Steve Otaloro, stated this in an interview with journalists in Akure, the state capital.
According to him, “The defection of some members of our party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is unfortunate but is a normal occurrence in politics. We respect the decisions of those who have chosen to leave the party and wish them well in their future endeavors.”
“The APC remains focused on our goal of winning the governorship election and delivering good governance to the people of Ondo State. Our party in Ondo State is strong, and we are determined to secure victory for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the November 2024 governorship election.”
Otaloro maintained that the APC’s chances in the forthcoming election were very bright, emphasizing the party’s strong grassroots structure, solid support base, and track record of good governance.
He added, “The party has an experienced and influential candidate who is well-equipped to lead the state to progress and development. With the support of the people of Ondo State, we are confident that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his running mate, Dr. Olayide Adelami, will emerge victorious in the election and continue to serve the best interests of the state.”
He further noted that the reconciliation of the APC governorship aspirants with Aiyedatiwa has been a significant step towards unity and cohesion within the party.
“The reconciliation will make a significant impact on the governorship poll. We believe that it will not only boost our chances but also attract more support from the people of Ondo State.”
“Governor Aiyedatiwa has shown great leadership in bringing all factions together, and we are confident that this unity will strengthen our party’s chances in the election,” he concluded.
