By Jubril Bada

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has addressed concerns raised by its Women for Equality group regarding the upcoming local government elections scheduled for January 18, 2025.

In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro, the APC emphasised that its process for selecting candidates was democratic, with decisions made at the ward and local government levels.

Otaloro praised the women’s passion and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to gender inclusivity and equity.

The statement clarified that the outcomes of the primaries were the collective decisions of party members and were not influenced by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

It highlighted the governor’s consistent support for gender equality through his appointments and policies aimed at empowering women.

Otaloro stated, “Governor Aiyedatiwa recognizes the invaluable contributions of women to society and is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where women can thrive. His administration has prioritized gender-sensitive practices and made strides to encourage women’s political participation.”

The APC further noted its efforts to ease conditions for women’s involvement in primaries and pledged to address concerns raised by the Women for Equality group through constructive dialogue.

It called on all party members, particularly women, to unite and work towards strengthening the party, ensuring inclusivity, and amplifying the voices of all members in governance.

The party reaffirmed its dedication to creating opportunities for women in politics and governance while urging continued engagement in the democratic process.
