The Ondo State House of Assembly has commended the management and union leaders of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), for suspending their two-month industrial action, following the timely intervention of the Assembly.
The House described the decision as a commendable step in the right direction.
Reacting to the development, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Olamide Oladiji, expressed appreciation to both the management and union leaders for prioritising peace and progress in the best interests of the institution and the state’s education sector.
The Speaker noted that the House had earlier taken decisive action by constituting an ad hoc committee, chaired by Hon. (Barr.) Steven Abitogun, to address the issues and facilitate a lasting solution to the prolonged crisis at the institution.
He further expressed gratitude to the Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his steadfast commitment to the advancement of education.
He particularly commended the Governor for reducing the outstanding salary arrears in the institution from fourteen months to six.
Oladiji assured the management and union that the House remains committed to supporting the institution, especially with regard to the settlement of the remaining six months’ salary arrears. He also praised his fellow lawmakers for their continued dedication to educational development in the state.
In conclusion, the Speaker called on all stakeholders in the education sector to collaborate with the current administration in order to achieve shared goals and position Ondo State as a beacon of academic excellence.
