Ondo Assembly majority leader seeks legislative reforms, consistency in lawmaking

The Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, has called for comprehensive legislative reforms, consistency in lawmaking, and improvements in legislative processes to enhance governance at the state level.
Speaking at the Conference on Harmonised Standing Orders for State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria and the 2025 Constitution Review, held in Lagos, Ogunmolasuyi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Southwest Majority Leaders Forum, reiterated his commitment to strengthening legislative procedures and governance frameworks.
The event, which convened key stakeholders from across the country, focused on legislative reforms aimed at improving efficiency and accountability within Nigeria’s legislative institutions.
As the Chairman of the Southwest Majority Leaders Forum, Ogunmolasuyi played a crucial role in the discussions, representing both the Ondo State House of Assembly and the broader legislative interests of the Southwest region.
The conference, supported by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, aimed to harmonise the Standing Orders of State Houses of Assembly to foster uniformity, efficiency, and transparency in legislative processes.
Key discussions at the conference included: Standardising legislative practices to ensure consistency in lawmaking. Strengthening legislative independence while maintaining synergy with the executive and judiciary. Reviewing the 2025 constitutional amendments to reinforce democratic governance at the state level.
Ogunmolasuyi emphasised the need for clear and enforceable legislative procedures to empower state assemblies in their oversight functions.
He maintained that a well-structured legislature is pivotal to good governance, policy continuity, and sustainable development.
He also underscored the importance of legislative capacity-building, urging state assemblies to leverage knowledge-sharing platforms to enhance governance effectiveness.
Commending the organisers for creating a platform for critical reflection on constitutional reforms, Ogunmolasuyi lauded their advocacy for progressive legislative changes that align with the aspirations of Nigerians.
He assured his colleagues of his continued commitment to regional legislative collaboration within Nigeria’s national framework, pledging to champion governance reforms that will ensure greater coherence, accountability, and impact in the country’s legislative institutions.
