Ondo Assembly probes rising cases of land grabbing

The Ondo State House of Assembly has set up an ad hoc committee to investigate rising cases of land grabbing and illegal land occupation, following a series of petitions from affected individuals.

Chairman of the Committee and lawmaker representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, Gbegudu Ololade James, said the move was in accordance with Section 103(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to curbing violence and fraudulent activities linked to land disputes, ensuring a secure and lawful environment for residents of the state.

The committee has summoned several individuals to appear before it at the Mini Hallowed Chambers of the House of Assembly. Those scheduled to appear on Tuesday, 18 February 2025, include:

Mr Ojo Ajisafe – Okedasa Street, Ondo City.

Mr Shina Akinyele – Odo Igba Street, Igba, Ondo.

The Oloja of Igba, Mr Akinbobola Kehinde.

Mr Festus Ifedayo – Lipetesi Agiodo, Ondo East Local Government.

Mrs Stella Akinbobola – Lipetesi Agiodo, Ondo East Local Government.

Additionally, the following individuals are expected to appear on Wednesday, 19 February 2025:

His Royal Highness, Oba Omotayo Ajayi Adu, the Asinigbo of Isinigbo, Akure North.

Chief Mayowa Akinsulu, the Ooye of Isinigbo.

Mr Taiwo Potoki and Mr Oluwole Kareem.

The statement further indicated that all invitees are required to appear at 11:00 am on their respective dates.
