The Ondo State House of Assembly has urged the Management of the State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) not to compromise the standard of the ongoing projects under their supervision in order to achieve the set objectives.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Culture, Tourism, Security, Community Development, and Cooperative Services, Ololade Gbegudu, issued the charge when he led other members on an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing 15.4-kilometre rural road project from Oda to Langbodo Farm Settlement in Akure.
According to the Committee Chairman, it became imperative to inspect and assess the level of work done on the site as part of their duty as representatives of the people.
“We have seen the project and where they started from. We’ve asked questions about the culverts and other aspects. We can see that the project is being delayed by the weather, but they have promised that when the dry season sets in, they will speed up work on the site.”
Gbegudu, who stated that so far they have adhered to the project specifications, believes that by the end, the road would bring relief and development to agrarians and rural dwellers.
The Committee reiterated that it would continue to support every effort aimed at bringing relief to the people and fast-tracking development in the State.
The RAAMP State Project Coordinator, Engr. Adetanmi Femi, explained that the project is one of several under the office, funded by the World Bank and the State Government through counterpart funding.
He said that the earthworks, concrete works, and asphalt stages would be completed according to specification, noting that when finished, the project would lead to significant development in the area, thereby improving the socio-economic lives of the people.
He assured that the road would be completed within eighteen months as planned.
