Ondo State Badminton coach, Tumise Olalehin has disclosed  that his players are battle ready for the upcoming National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State later this year.

Olalehin, who disclosed  this to Sporting Hope during an interview at the indoor hall of the State sports complex in Akure, added that  his players have been training vigorously and are in high spirit ahead of the competition.

He said “with hardworking and God on our side we will come back home with medals”.

Olalehin, who is also the National under -15 Badminton coach added that Ondo State is blessed with capable and talented players both male and female, who are preparing themselves for the national  youth showpiece.

The players are working hard because they know it’s an opportunity for them to blow out and join the leagues of champions that will represent Nigeria at the international event outside the country.

According to him, “Ondo state is a threat to all other states in Badminton because we have  the best here in the state.

The likes of Alex Fapounda a student of Federal University Technology Akure, who represented Nigeria at the World University Games won medals for the state ,Obasanmi Jumoke who won two bronze  medals at the all African game , three gold medals at the all African school sports in Ghana.

While Abiola Matunrayo who is the current number one in the state won the best and young athletes ever played Badminton at the last National Festival , she is now in the national camp. She is also the African champion ,she went to west African championship in 2017 and did excellently well , so we are abound with so many raw talents here in Ondo state,” he said.

The National under 15 coach stressed further that the state has a lot potentials from primary secondary schools and at the higher institutions that they are grooming and projecting  for future champions.

He said “no sooner than later Ondo state Badminton will produce another set of champions, at least two players from Fiwasaye which we are looking up to , to give us gold medals ,another one  from Aquinas college , Ologbosere who is one of the best players in the state even at the national level now “.

He also revealed that they were planning to go to Ivory coast anytime from now, ,saying it may even come before the youth game in Ilorin.

The coach therefore called on private individuals and  corporate bodies to join hands with the government to develop sports in the state, adding that government can’t do it alone .

He commended the state government for   inaugurating sports association board committee which has in many ways be of help to the coaches and boosting the morale of the  players.
