Ondo begins treatment for Onchocerciasis

Ondo State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health has commenced the annual mass administration of Ivermectin in nine Local Government Areas in the state for the treatment of Onchocerciasis.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharm. (Mrs) Folukemi Aladenola while speaking noted that the ministry is poised to control the prevalence of onchocerciasis in the state through the use of a chemotherapy approach.

The Permanent Secretary emphasized that the activity began on November 7 and will end on 23, 2023 in Akoko South West, Akoko North West, Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore, Irele, Ile-Oluji/ Okeigbo, Ondo East, and Ondo West.

Aladenola said the exercise targets residents who are above five years old through the administration of ivermectin to the eligible population.

She hinted that Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers of less than eight days of birth, children under 4 years, dwarfs, and people on other medications who cannot do without taking their medicine in a day are not eligible to take the medicine.

She, therefore, charged citizens in the various communities to cooperate with the team to achieve the goal of the exercise.
