‘Ondo CARES programme benefits over 170,000 people’

By Akinnodi Francis, Ondo

The Ondo State Community and Social Development Agency (ODCSDA), under the Ondo State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (Ondo CARES), has stated that over 170,000 direct beneficiaries have benefited from the programme to date.

The Permanent Secretary of the agency, Mr. Bosun Ogundipe, disclosed this while speaking on the success of the Ondo State CARES programme.

According to Ogundipe, “ODCSDA has been an outstanding platform under the Ondo State CARES, delivering the basic services infrastructure component of the programme to rural communities.

“The outstanding performance of the agency significantly positioned Ondo State as the overall third-best performing state among the 36 states of the federation and the FCT in the evaluation of the first cycle of the programme.

“Since Ondo State CARES commenced in March 2022, ODCSDA has facilitated interventions in more than 68 communities and six vulnerable groups, each benefiting from grants of up to N14.5 million to execute a mandatory minimum of two micro-projects, as stipulated in the project’s operational document.

“The implementation of Community Development Plans (CDPs) and Group Development Plans (GDPs) has resulted in over 137 micro-projects spread across the 18 local government areas of the state.

“These micro-projects include basic health centres, classroom blocks, science laboratories, ICT centres, motorized boreholes, VIP toilets, school examination halls, school staff quarters, and medical diagnostic centres for BHC, all aimed at benefiting and enhancing the growth of the people and the state.”

He explained that the project interventions have recorded over 170,000 direct beneficiaries so far, with projections indicating that the benefiting population will increase before the end of 2025.
