Ondo chiefs docked over unlawful installation of High Chief

An high chief, Adeyemi Akinde has been dragged before an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure for unlawfully parading himself  as a community chief.

One Chief Dele Arobadi was arraigned alongside for conspiracy to instal Chief Akinde as the Olu of lgodan Lisa.

The defendants are facing five-counts charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful  installation of a Chief, unlawful assumption of title as a recognized Chief, malicious damage and threatening violence.

The state prosecutor, Helen Falowo , told the court that the defendants committed the offence on August 26, 2022 at about 2:00pm at lgodan Lisa Community in Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State.

Falowo said the first defendants conspired with  others at large to breach the peace of the community by unlawfully installing Akinde, without the approval of the Ondo State Executive Council.

According to her, Chief Akinde allowed himself  to be installed and paraded himself, wearing the royal regalia as a recognized Chief to wit Olu of lgodan Lisa.

“They maliciously damaged two large canopies and one hundred plastic chairs properties belonging to one High Chief Ogunja Ayodeji.

“With intent to alarm the people of lgodan Lisa Community, the defendants discharged loaded firearms to cause breach of peace,” she said.

According to the charge sheet, the offences contravene Sections 516, 15(2), 15(1) and 2(b), 456, 86(2) of the Criminal Code Cap, 37 Volume.1, Laws of Ondo State Nigeria,2006

The prosecutor did not object to the application for adjourment. But she asked for seven days to file her processes.

The complainant was given ten days to file its processes in opposition parties to the priminary objective of the defendants and bail application.

Defence lawyer, Mr A.K Adewusi prayed the court to grant his clients’  bail in most liberal terms.

Justice Yemi Fasanmi, in his ruling, said the defendants, who were on bail earlier granted by the magistrate court according to their counsel, shall remain same.

He adjourned the case till February 23, 2023 for preliminary objection.
