Ondo decides: Large turn out in Okitipupa

By Kayode Olabanji, Okitipupa

Electorates in Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, turned out en masse to exercise their civic rights in the ongoing elections.

Reports indicate an impressive voter turnout, with polling units buzzing with activity as residents cast their ballots.

The exercise, which commenced at 8:30 am, has been lauded for its orderly conduct. Voters patiently queued to perform their civic duties, while electoral officials ensured a seamless process. Security personnel were also on-site to maintain peace and order.

The high turnout reflects the community’s commitment to the democratic process, with stakeholders applauding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efficient management of the exercise.

Princess Oladuni Odu, a grassroots politician and the immediate past first female Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG), praised INEC for ensuring a smooth electoral process.

Speaking with The Hope in her hometown of Idepe Okitipupa, after voting, she noted that the exercise had been peaceful and devoid of any significant challenges. She lauded the electorate for maintaining decorum and the security agencies for their active involvement in safeguarding the process.

She also urged residents of Ondo State to participate actively in elections, emphasising the importance of voting to secure a say in governance. “When people take part in elections, they can proudly testify that they contributed to choosing their preferred leaders,” she said.

Similarly, Dr Eddy Olafeso, former National Chairman (South West) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), commended the electoral process and voter conduct. After casting his vote in Idepe Okitipupa Unit 04, Dr Olafeso described the election as free and fair as of the time of reporting.

“So far, so good. Voting is still ongoing peacefully here in my unit, although I can’t speak for other units in Okitipupa. It’s a promising start, but we need to see it through to the end before making a final assessment of the overall outcome,” Dr Olafeso stated.

Barrister Mrs Ademujimi Adenike, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) voting at Unit 19, Ward 1, described the exercise as “very orderly.” She noted that accreditation processes were efficient, materials arrived early, and security was well-coordinated. “People are conducting themselves very well, and there have been no problems,” she said.

Comrade Olúwaseun Olabisi, the Chairman of Unit 11, Ward 1, and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed satisfaction with INEC’s performance. He also praised voters for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere.

One of the electors, Mrs Idebi Tomisin, the first voter at Unit 11, shared her satisfaction with the orderly proceedings, noting the efficiency of the electoral process.

Similarly, the Chairman of APC Unit 18, Ward 1, Mr Morebise Ayodele, acknowledged initial issues with the Biometric Voter Registration system, which were promptly resolved. “Since then, everything has been smooth. I am satisfied with the process and the conduct of our people,” he said.

At Unit 25, Ward 1, Mr Bola Orogbemi commended the peaceful atmosphere, stating that the election was free of intimidation. He appreciated INEC’s efforts in ensuring smooth operation.

While the overall conduct in the area has been peaceful, Mr Akinjobi Rotimi, Chairman of Unit 18 of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), commended the process but raised concerns about alleged intentions by some APC members to disrupt the exercise.
