Ondo East inaugurates committee to boost revenue

By Akinnodi Francis, Ondo

In a significant move to enhance the financial autonomy and development of Ondo East Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Joshua Ogunduyilemi, has inaugurated an Internal Generated Revenue Committee.

This strategic initiative aims to improve and harmonise the local government’s internally generated revenue (IGR), marking a crucial step towards sustainable economic growth and development.

Weekend Hope reports that the committee, chaired by the Vice Chairman of Ondo East Local Government, Seyi Oguntimehin, with Mr. Osakia Pius as Committee Secretary, Fredrick Akinwale (Secretary of Ondo East/North LCDA), Olomojere Sulaiman, and Emeka Augustine as members, has been established.

Ogunduyilemi stated that the committee has been tasked with several key responsibilities, including identifying and implementing strategies to increase the local government’s revenue base.

“Streamlining and coordinating revenue collection across the local government and the Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to eliminate duplication and inefficiencies.

“Revitalising underperforming or dormant revenue sources and exploring new avenues for revenue generation.

“Assessing existing revenue structures and proposing updates or new frameworks to enhance revenue collection,” he said.

According to the chairman of the committee, Seyi Oguntimehin, he pledged to work tirelessly with the committee members to achieve the set objectives, emphasising their commitment to boosting the local government’s IGR.

With the IGR committee now in place, Ondo East Local Government is poised to experience a significant transformation in its revenue generation capabilities. This development is expected to have a positive effect on the economy and the people.

This will also enable the government to fund more projects and services that benefit the community.
