The Chairman,Ondo East Local Government area of Ondo State,Hon Joshua Ogunduyilemi, has said that his administration is working on providing a solar mini grid that will provide electricity to the area.
The council boss made this known yesterday when speaking with The Hope.
According to him, the government is currently working on getting a partnership deal with investors to restore electricity back to community.
“We already have an investor in India with 70 percent stake, so we are working on the the remaining 30 percent.
“I want to urge our people to continue to pray for the government. Surely, restoring electricity will improve our standard of living and boost the economy of the local government, so all hand are on deck to continue to make our people happy.”
Meanwhile, residents of Bolorunduro, the headquarters of the council, have called on the state government, relevant agencies, and philanthropists to urgently help in restoring electricity to the community, which has been in total blackout for over a decade.
A prominent stakeholder, Hon. John Ogunmoyero, expressed deep concern over the prolonged power outage, emphasising its devastating impact on businesses, education, healthcare, and overall quality of life in the area.
He noted that the lack of electricity has crippled economic activities, forced many businesses to shut down, and stalled development.
He urged both the state and local government as well as relevant agencies to take immediate action, assuring them of his willingness to support any effort aimed at restoring power to the community.
“The people of Ondo East have endured darkness for far too long. This situation has negatively affected our economy, students, healthcare services, and daily life. We appeal to the government to take urgent action and restore electricity to our communities.”
Also,a resident, Ayoola Osunmakin, expressed disappointment over the government’s negligence, criticizing leaders for failing to address the power crisis despite its far-reaching effects on the local population.
“The electricity issue in Ondo East which is over seventeen years, is something that our elected leaders of the constituency can rectify, but they seem unconcerned.
“Due to this negligence, the damages keep increasing. Almost all the poles have fallen, and the transformers are no longer in good condition. As a result, the cost of repairs has drastically increased.
“Since our representatives now seem unconcerned, we still appeal to the Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who oversees all affairs of the state, to help us by calling the attention of the representatives in the area and relevant agencies to this issue before it gets out of hand,” he pleaded.
Residents of Ondo East remain hopeful that the government will heed this call and take decisive steps toward resolving the long-standing electricity challenge.
