Ondo emergency response boss condemns reckless driving practices
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Prince Wellington Adebawo has denounced dangerous driving practices, including speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, which he described as reckless and life-threatening.
Adebawo stated this when he embarked on a crucial tour of disaster sites in Ondo State, following a series of tragic incidents.
According to a statement issued by Irewole Omojuwa, Press Secretary, Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Adebawo’s first stop was the grisly accident scene on the Ondo-Ore road in Ajue LCDA, where a heart-wrenching collision claimed 16 lives.
With heavy hearts, he conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and took the opportunity to rally the Ondo State Drivers’ Union for strict adherence to safety protocols.
Dignitaries present included: Comrade Ademola Odudu, Chairman of Ondo State NURTW, Adegoroye Taiwo, Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Gbenro Akintolayo, Chairman of Irepodun LCDA, Ajue, Abimbola Oladimeji, Member of the Ondo State Sports Council, Ondo State Director of Fire Service and other officials.
Adebawo also assessed the damage from a fire at Ore Market, which severely impacted several food stores.
Expressing empathy for the affected business owners, he advocated for enhanced safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
His tour continued to the scene of another devastating fire at the Motor Park in Ore, near Bovas Filling Station, which led to the destruction of several shops. Adebawo called for a stronger safety consciousness among the community.
Ending his visit, Adebawo met with the Director of Fire Service at the Ore Fire Service Station. They discussed pressing issues such as inadequate water supply and equipment deficiencies. Adebawo pledged to work with relevant authorities to rectify these issues and bolster the station’s capabilities.
