Ondo establishes new court

In order to curb the violation of environmental laws and  enhance a cleaner environment in Ondo State, a newly established magistrate court has been commissioned.

Speaking during the commissioning in Akure, Chief Judge of the state,  Justice Ayedun Odusola explained that courts have the capacity to direct and influence environmental protection through enforcement of laid down rules and regulations, adding that they also give life to law as contained in public Health Law and Bye Law 2006.

Stressing the importance of serene environment and proper waste disposal, he said that it is crucial that the environment is protected by law.

While commending the State Waste Management Authority in partnership with ZL Global Alliance for the establishment of the court, he said  that it will have positive impact on the society especially in the area of environment neatness.

He suggested that the court be duplicated in other senatorial districts of the state in order to facilitate cleaner environment.

Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Sunday Akinwalire thanked Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu  for his efforts in ensuring a neater state, adding that the court will bring great improvement in keeping cleaner environment.

He said that 2500  environmental cases were prosecuted in 2022 in Akure, adding that with the facility on ground, residents are bound to do the needful so as not to face the wrath of the law.

Representative, ZL Global Alliance, Mr. Tobi Benjamin expressed appreciation to government for the privilege to serve, stating that the court is on ground due to government support, adding that the court has been in place to ensure that the environment is clean and safe.

Speaking with The Hope, General Manager, Ondo State Waste Management Authority, Mr Fola Omowole stated that it is important to enforce environmental laws in order to have sane and safe environment.
