In a bid to strengthen the relationship between the State Football Association (FA) and the Ondo State Sports Council (OSSC) the FA Chairman, Otuba Dele Ajayi has sought for the collaboration of the council.
Ajayi stated this when the FA board members paid a courtesy visit to felicitate with the General Manager of the council, Mr Wande Fabuluje on his confirmation as the substantive GM of the council by the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Ajayi urged the general Manager to carry the FA along in their activities, saying the new board is ready to work with the council to return the state to where it really belong to in terms of sports in the comity of states.
He said, “apart from being a basketball player, certified coach in the game and in other sports,I’m part of the council, because I served here before I retired, we are happy because one of us is on the seat, we pray for you to have a successful and remarkable tenure”.
He continued: “We want a departure from the past, we don’t want the state’s darling team to battle relegation this season,we have to come together to support the team, you have been doing it before, we want you to continue in that direction, we own the team together”, he added.
The FA chairman who described football as the king of all sports, also pleaded with the council’s boss to allow Sunshine Stars have unhindered access to facilities at the sports council in order for the team to be more concentrated and prepare well for the season ahead.
He asked rhetorically why under -13 , 15 going down?
He said that there is need for all football stakeholders to come together to develop football in the state by going back to the drawing board, to re -enact the under age football competition to salvage the situation. Where the state’s teams will be travelling round the length and breadth of the country before they could see average players donning the team colour.
He pleaded with the General Manager to be putting football development in their budget ,in order to discover and develop under age players that will do the state proud in future and to also serve as a means of internal generated revenue for the state.
His words, “the likes of Geoffrey Oboabana, Abe Sunday, Alaba Adeniyi, and others are products of grassroots football development.
Lots of them are still abound in the state, for us not to let all these talents waste , all hands must be on deck to develop football and other sports in the state”.
While responding, the Sports Council General Manager , Wande Fabuluje appreciated the FA boss and his board members for the recognition done on him and the council at large, saying their visit will further smooth the relationship between the two bodies.
Fabuluje commended the State FA for his contributions to football development in the state, saying he should extend his philanthropist gesture to other sports.
He therefore urged both the FA and the council to ensure there is no communication gap in order to work harmoniously.
