Ondo FA Cup: 17 teams registered

Over 15 male and female football teams have so far registered to slug it out in this year’s (FA Cup) in Ondo State.

Some of  the registered teams are; Sunshine Stars FC, Akure City, Rising Stars,Moyero FC, Ekimogun FC, Alhaji Leke Dada FC, Winners FC Odigbo, Owomade Metropol Spor, Real Ifon Football Academy, with two female teams; sports Council Queens and Sunshine Queens, among others .

During a chat with the Sporting Hope in Akure, the state capital,  Ondo State Football Association’s Secretary, Mr Ibukun Adetoyinbo said this year’s FA Cup will be a departure from the previous editions.

According to him, “this year’s edition will be distinct, because of the experience of the current FA Board members and their desire to promote grassroots football across the state  in conjunction with the technical know-how of the Committee saddled with the responsibility of organising this year’s edition.

“In previous editions we used to make the competition a  knock out, but this year we are looking on how to change the tide to organise it in a form of league, though it is still subject to committee’s scrutiny and final decision, but I’m very sure this year’s edition will be an eye opener, which all the participating teams will have no cause to complain as it used to be”.

He promised that the officiating will also be fair to all.  “We will ensure that there won’t be any favorite  team as being alleged in the past,” he noted.

Aladetoyinbo assured  that they will create a level playing ground for all the participating teams to ensure that the best team represent the state  at National level.

He added that the aim of the current Ondo FA was to encourage  the private clubs in the state to participate in the State  FA Cup, saying that was the reason they are putting all mercenaries in place to ensure  they make it open from the beginning  of the competition  to the end.

He added, “private clubs owners in the state should put aside  the insinuation that Ondo FA Cup was design to favour Sunshine Stars.

The collection of forms close on March 4, this year, while the competition is expected to kick off on March 30th.
