Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a farmer, identified as Adegoke, in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government area, over the beating of two suspected thieves to death.
The Hope earlier reported that Adegoke apprehended two suspects who were allegedly on his farm to steal produce. He reportedly beat them into a coma, and they were later confirmed dead at the hospital.
Confirming the arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, stated that Adegoke had been detained and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation.
The police spokesperson added that the complainant alleged the suspected thieves were on Adegoke’s farm to pick snails, not to steal farm produce.
She also noted that it was Adegoke’s wife who had alerted him to the presence of the individuals, prompting him to return and confront them.
Odunlami further stated that the command has commenced thorough investigation into the incident.
