Ondo state farmers have appealed to the state government to provide subsidized inputs to meet the target for food sufficiency.
The State Chairman of Agricultural Commodities Association, OSACA, Mr Gbenga Obaweya made the appeal in a chat with The Hope yesterday in Akure.
Obaweya stated that farmers want subsidized inputs, subsidized land preparation costs and the promotion of farm clusters.
“We would like to remind the government about massive rural road rehabilitation and the actualisation of the land bank scheme,” he said.
He appreciated government for the recently flagged off planting season which he described as timely.
While trusting that farmers will find the varieties more productive, Obaweya appreciated the government for the distribution of free seeds, seedlings and stems to farmers for this year’s planting.
It would be recalled, that the year 2023 flag-off ceremony witnessed sales of tree crops seedlings produced by the state Tree Crops Unit at subsidised rate.
“The available tree crops were; Oil palm, coconut, rubber, kola-nut, Bitter kola, walnut, sour-sop and bush mango ( ogbonon) and free anti-rabies vaccination for dogs.
