Nigeria would overcome most of the challenges facing her especially security and economy if the opportunities provided by digital world are maximized by the people.
The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who made this known while flagging-off Digital Training Programme tagged, “Ondo-engage” for 3, 000 unemployed graduates across the three senatorial districts of the state equally said his government is totally committed to get youths in the state productively engaged through various policies and programmes.
The training programme which is part of the activities marking the first 100 days of the Governor’s second term in office was organised by the state government through the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) in conjunction with ENVIVO Communications Limited and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The nine months training programme would focus on digital economy.
Akeredolu disclosed that all the 3, 000 participants would enjoy N30,000 monthly stipend, training gadgets such as laptops, subscription and access to loan after the training.
While charging the beneficiaries to take the training seriously, he added that building the digital skills of the young graduates would go a long way in equipping them with relevant skills for IT jobs.
“Since the inception of our administration, we have made a lot of progress in the implementation of our ICT Drive through the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) amongst which are: implementation of State Integrated Financial Management System (SIFMIS); conduct of digital training programme for 218 teachers, 270 secondary students, over 350 unemployed youths and 62 entrepreneurs from the three senatorial districts of the State;
“Procurement of ICT services and equipment for effective service delivery; Digital Village Projects infive locations within the State for continuous digital skills acquisition; and installation of dedicated 155 MBPS Broadband internet service to all MDAs, etc,” Akeredolu added.
Earlier, the Chairman, Ondo State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Mr Olumbe Akinkugbe, who said the 3,000 beneficiaries were drawn from the three senatorial districts, commended for providing the enabling environment for investors to thrive and promote overall development.
Akinkugbe added that Governor Akeredolu led administration is committed to use Information Technology to drive accelerated social and economic development in the state across all sectors, including healthcare, education, new jobs opportunities among others.
Representative of ENVIVO Communications, Mr. Gbenga Obadina said the agency is set to partner other organizations and financial institutions to solve fundamental issues and challenges facing the country.
Some of the beneficiaries, Olaribiwa Ashimolowo and Igbasan Abayomi appreciated Akeredolu for the effort of his administration to engage youths technologically and described the event as a golden opportunity which they would fully utilize.
