Ondo State Government has launched a comprehensive 30-year development blueprint tagged “ONDO 2056”.
The launch took place at a two-day Stakeholders’ Validation Workshop in Akure, where experts, community leaders and citizens finalised the visionary plan aimed at transforming the state into a hub of innovation, inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.
Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Laolu Akindolire, described the blueprint as a scientifically grounded, stakeholder-driven document, strategically aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Nigeria’s Agenda 2050, and the state’s own “OUR EASE” policy.
“This workshop is not just a formality. It is a platform for deepening the ownership and legitimacy of the ONDO 2056 Plan. We are building a future where every citizen has a stake and a voice,” Akindolie emphasised.
The ONDO 2056 plan outlines long-term goals across critical sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, technology, security, and environmental resilience. It aims to guide the state’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in executing effective short- and medium-term strategies towards a shared long-term vision.
Stakeholders from all corners of society—including traditional rulers, religious leaders, artisans, youth, academia, civil society, media, and government agencies—were present to contribute to the roadmap’s final shape.
Describing the initiative as a “landmark event”, Akindolire reiterated that ONDO 2056 captures the collective aspirations of the people and is designed to chart a course for sustained progress over the next three decades.
The Administrative Secretary of the Economic Planning and Coordinating Office, Mr Bamidele Daisi, hailed the plan as “a roadmap for inclusive growth, sustainability, and long-term prosperity”, while applauding Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his visionary leadership and the Commissioner for his coordination of the process.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, Chairman of the Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation; Mrs Adeola Fynch, representative of the Chairman of Akure South Local Government; and Oba Adeola Adebiyi Oyinbade, the Oloba of Uso, representing the State Council of Traditional Rulers.
Technical sessions were facilitated by Prof. Adegboyega Oguntade and Prof. Tomola Obamuyi from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), who contributed expert insights to the policy framework.
