The Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response, Prince Wellington Adebawo, has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the Obe-Nla community in Ilaje Local Government area following a violent attack allegedly carried out by operatives of the Nigerian Navy last Friday.
The early morning raid, as gathered by The Hope, left the community in turmoil, with dozens of houses, a local factory, and personal belongings reduced to ashes.

Several residents also sustained injuries, with visible signs of physical assault, as chaos gripped the previously peaceful settlement.
Prince Adebawo, who was accompanied by officials from the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA) during the visit, described the incident as “heinous and deeply troubling,” assuring the community of the state government’s full support.
“We are here to assess the level of destruction firsthand and to stand in solidarity with the people of Obe-Nla. What we’ve seen is heartbreaking,” he said. “The government will not fold its arms. We are committed to a full investigation and to ensuring that those behind this attack are held accountable.”
One of the victims, a respected community leader who requested anonymity, narrated his ordeal with visible distress.
“It was like a nightmare. I couldn’t escape. They beat me mercilessly,” he said, displaying bruises and wounds allegedly sustained during the attack.
The delegation was received at the palace of the traditional ruler of Obe-Nla, His Royal Majesty, Oba Andrew Kolawole Olubakin I, who expressed appreciation for the prompt intervention of the state government.
“Your presence today shows that we are not alone. We thank the state government for standing with us at this difficult time,” the monarch said, calling for justice and immediate relief efforts for affected families.
Residents and local leaders alleged that uniformed naval personnel stormed the community under the guise of a military operation, using excessive force and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Meanwhile, Prince Adebawo confirmed that emergency relief measures would be deployed immediately and that a formal report would be submitted to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for further action.
“The people of Obe-Nla deserve justice and support. This government will do everything within the law to make sure they get both,” he added.
He urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue, promising that both short- and long-term interventions would be implemented to aid the community’s recovery.
