Ondo govt cautions nurses against planned strike

The Ondo State Government has urged nurses in the state to reconsider their planned industrial action, insisting that there is no valid reason for the strike.

In a statement signed by the Head of Service, Bayo Philip, the government expressed surprise at the development, stating that there was no unresolved issue regarding the CONHESS salary template to warrant such action.

The government recalled that, like other health workers and public servants, nurses recently benefitted from a salary increase following the implementation of the ₦73,000 minimum wage approved in November 2024 by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

According to the statement, a meeting was held in mid-January 2025 between the government and health workers, excluding medical doctors, where it was agreed that the demand for full implementation of the CONHESS salary structure would be presented to the governor for consideration.

The government noted that Governor Aiyedatiwa, in his usual commitment to the health sector, had already directed a financial assessment of the demand, a process that was nearing completion. It added that this should not be an excuse to delay the January 2025 salary payment.

Urging nurses to allow reason to prevail, the government warned against any disruption to healthcare services, stressing that such actions would not be condoned.
