Ondo govt debunks herdsmen attack, warns against fake news

The Ondo State Government has dismissed reports making the rounds on social media alleging an attack by armed herdsmen on communities in the state, describing it as “absolute falsehood” aimed at inciting fear among residents.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Chief Olugbenga Atiba, in a statement on Monday, said the claim that farmers were killed in an attack was a fabrication designed to cause panic and undermine the peace in the state.

“For the umpteenth time, we caution those behind this falsehood to desist from spreading misinformation capable of causing chaos, disunity, and distrust between the people and the government,” Atiba said.

He assured residents that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains committed to ensuring the security of lives and property across the state.

“It is public knowledge that the Ondo State Government prioritises the safety of every resident. We urge the people to go about their lawful businesses without fear, as the government has created a peaceful and secure environment for all,” he added.

The government urged members of the public to verify information before sharing to avoid escalating unnecessary tension.
