By Akinnodi Francis, Ondo

In response to the devastating flood that affected several communities in the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, the state government has deployed heavy-duty machines and technical equipment to clear clogged drainages and excavate blocked waterways.

The Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Adebare Adeboye, made this known to newsmen while receiving the machines and equipment in Ile-Oluji.

According to him, he acted swiftly upon receiving reports and outcries from affected residents and reached out to the Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to brief him on the urgent situation.

“And in a display of strong synergy between the local and state governments, the governor immediately ordered measures crucial to preventing a recurrence of such flooding by deploying heavy-duty machines and technical equipment to clear clogged drainages and excavate blocked waterways in the council area.

“The timely intervention of the state government has brought great relief to the people, as the clearing exercise is already underway in areas hit by the flooding in Ile-Oluji communities,” he stated.

He added that, to further underscore the state’s commitment to the wellbeing of its people, a high-powered delegation from the Office of the Governor, led by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Union Matters and Special Duties, Bola Taiwo, visited the affected areas on a monitoring tour.

Speaking during the visit, the SSA applauded the LGA Chairman not only for responding promptly to the crisis but also for the various capital development projects he has initiated and completed within a short period in office.

He noted that the chairman’s ability to maintain close ties with the governor and leverage those relationships for the good of the people reflects visionary leadership and true grassroots governance.

According to him, “This is true democratic leadership, one that is accessible, responsive, and always in tune with the needs of the people.”

He added that Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo is indeed fortunate to have a chairman who is passionate about service and ensures the voice of his people is heard at the highest levels of government.

He, however, urged residents not to block the free flow of water in the drainages and waterways to prevent future flooding.
