Ondo govt, NANNM agree to suspend strike action

Plans are in place to give priority to nurses welfare in Ondo State, The Hope has gathered.
To this end, Ondo State Government has called for the suspension of strike action embarked upon by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).
It was contained in a press statement signed by the Press Officer, office of the Head of Service, Sina Adeyeye, and made available to The Hope on Monday.
It reads; “After an extensive deliberation held today, Monday, 3rd February 2025, between the Office of the Head of Service and the Hospital Management Board with the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), it has been resolved that the strike embarked upon on Friday 31st January 2025 be called off immediately.
“The Labour was duly informed of the actions being taken by Government to address their concerns, especially on CONHESS Salary Structure and financial effectiveness of their 2024 promotion, among others.
“Both parties acknowledged the commitment of His Excellency, Dr. Aiyedatiwa-led Government towards effective health care service delivery, in particular and sustenance of industrial harmony in the State Public Service, generally.
“It was agreed that a joint forum of government and representatives of health professionals be created for regular interface to forestall hiccups in the sector.”
Speaking in a telephone interview with the State Chairman NANNM, Felix Provide, he stated that the strike is being suspended based on the agreement with government nothing that “the Governor is our father and he has agreed to pay from January, we are giving him the benefit of doubt and that is why we are calling off the strike.
It would be recalled that NANNM ordered its members to embark on an indefinite strike in all state government’s health facilities from Friday, 31st. January, 2025.
In a Press release issued by Orobode and Acting Secretary, Comr. Lucky Okikiola Aremu, the association is agitating for the payment of the balance of January 2025 salary as agreed with the 100% new salary table and the correction of the 2022 Conversion Exercise where members were indirectly demoted and lateral (point to point) conversion in subsequent Conversion Exercises. – Payment of the arrears of Promotion and Hazard Allowances among others.
