Ondo govt reaffirms commitment to free student shuttle, light up Akure project

By Adedotun Ajayi

The Ondo State Government has reiterated that the Free Shuttle Bus Scheme for secondary school students remains fully operational, dismissing concerns over its possible suspension.

Addressing residents during a public affairs programme in Akure on Wednesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, explained that recent disruptions in the shuttle service were only temporary and had since been resolved.

He assured that the buses were back in service, continuing to provide free transportation for students in public schools across the state.

Beyond sustaining the initiative, Prince Adeniyan disclosed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had expanded the programme by increasing the number of buses and extending the service to more major towns in Ondo State.

Speaking on the Light Up Akure project, the CPS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the city remains well-lit and secure.

He stated that the second phase of the project was underway, with efforts focused on connecting the streetlights to the national grid, replacing aging poles, and upgrading infrastructure.

These measures, he noted, are designed to enhance public safety and improve nighttime visibility across the state capital.
