The Ondo State Government has urged schools and parents across the state to be security conscious.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire, while monitoring schools in Owo, advised school authorities to monitor strange movements within and around their premises and to safeguard school property.

While cautioning against truancy, absenteeism, bullying, and other unwholesome practices by students, the commissioner encouraged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s and wards’ activities, including the company they keep and what they do after school hours.

Akindolire also called on parents and guardians to provide essential educational materials such as textbooks, uniforms, and lockers for their children and wards to ensure a smooth teaching and learning process.

He assured the public that the government would continue to prioritise education and maintain the state’s leading position in the country through infrastructural development and quality programmes.

Meanwhile, the commissioner reiterated that the state government has not approved any additional levy for students in primary and secondary schools.

Akindolire explained that the Cloud-Based Education Programme for SS3 students in public secondary schools was an initiative of the Parent/Teachers Association (PTA) and the Ondo State chapter of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS).

He emphasised that the government still operates a tuition-free education policy in public schools across the state.

He noted that the government approved the PTA and ANCOPSS initiative after confirming that the Cloud-Based Education Programme would positively impact students’ preparation and performance in their final examinations. The programme is exclusively for SS3 students in public secondary schools.
