Ondo govt to sue GUO transport over Ore auto crash

The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, has vowed legal action against those responsible for the fatal road crash in Onipetesi, Ore, which claimed 30 lives.
Ajulo made this known on Friday when he received the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), CC Samuel Ibitoye (PhD), who led his team on a courtesy visit to congratulate him on his reappointment and officially submit the report on the tragic incident.
The crash, which occurred on February 1, 2025, along the Ore-Lagos Expressway, involved two commercial buses carrying a total of 32 passengers.
Findings from the FRSC report revealed that both vehicles were speeding in violation of road traffic regulations.
The GUO Transport Company bus, which was travelling from Lagos, reportedly drove against traffic, leading to a head-on collision with a Flight Transport Company bus coming from Gboko, Benue State, and heading to Lagos.
The impact sparked a fire outbreak, resulting in the deaths of 28 people who were burned beyond recognition. Of the four rescued victims, two later died while being transported to the hospital, raising the death toll to 30.
Reacting to the development, Ajulo commended the FRSC leadership for its proactive approach but maintained that the situation called for deep reflection and decisive action rather than mere congratulations.
He insisted that those responsible would be held accountable, noting that the official report, which followed thorough investigation and professional analysis, provided the basis for legal action.
The Attorney General stressed that Ondo State would not tolerate reckless endangerment of lives through negligence, warning that the transport company and its executives would face legal consequences.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to road safety and strict enforcement of traffic laws, adding that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa remained resolute in preventing similar tragedies.
