The Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has trained over 300 women in urban farming techniques as an alternative source of income.
The initiative, the Ministry noted was part of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s vision for economic sustainability, equipped participants with practical skills to thrive in urban agriculture and contribute to food security.

The training, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Akure, featured hands-on sessions led by agricultural experts. Participants were trained in home gardening for crops such as pepper, tomatoes, and vegetables, as well as poultry, rabbit rearing, fishery, and piggery management.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Leye Akinsola who was represented by the Director of Husbandry, Mr. Ojo O, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to empowering women economically.
Addressing the participants, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, highlighted the Aiyedatiwa administration’s focus on fostering self-reliance and economic growth.
“This training empowers you to drive community development and secure your households’ futures,” Dr. Osamaye said, urging the women to embrace diligence and patience for lasting impact.

Dr. Osamaye added that the over 300 women trained would soon be invited for another round of training, after which they would be empowered for economic prosperity.
She emphasised that the present administration is fully committed to the growth and development of women in the state.
