The Ondo State Government has vowed to clamp down on reckless driving, following a spike in accidents linked to dangerous motorists on state roads.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Emergency Response, Prince Adebawo Wellington, told Weekend Hope in Akure on Thursday, that the government is determined to protect lives and property by enforcing traffic regulations more strictly.
“We have recorded several accidents caused by reckless drivers. Our message to motorists is clear: obey traffic rules or face sanctions,” he said.
The Special Adviser cited the recent road improvements around First Bank as part of a wider plan to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety.
He warned that motorists who disregard the new traffic controls installed during the upgrades would face consequences.
“Reckless driving is not only illegal but also puts innocent lives at risk. Anyone driving dangerously in or out of the state will be sanctioned,” Prince Wellington stressed.
He added that the government would take firm action in all cases of accidents, whether involving individuals or damage to public property, saying, “Carelessness on our roads will no longer be tolerated.”
The government is also intensifying public sensitisation campaigns to educate residents on safe driving practices, in addition to ongoing enforcement operations.
He urged every driver to respect traffic laws, highlighting that strict compliance is essential to safeguard lives and ensure order on the state’s road network.
