The Ilaje community has declared its support for the reelection of Ondo State Governor , Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
The group which comprises of all prominent Ilajes including royal fathers took the decision yesterday at the Ilaje Development Summit Group, IDSG meeting to honour the governor for picking one of them as his running mate.
Welcoming dignitaries to the meeting, Executive Administrator of IDSG, Rev. Adesola Adebawo said Arakunrin Akeredolu has done good for Ilaje by picking an Ilaje man as his running mate added that Ilaje must adopt a beneficial position for their own survival, progress and development
“Akeredolu has done his part by picking Ayedatiwa, a son of Ilaje as his running mate and Ilaje has no choice than to support their own and vote massively for the joint ticket.” He said.
“In the history of Ondo state , since 1976, out of the four tribes in the coastal area of Ondo State, the Ilajes have been handed the short end of the stick and the choice is ours if we want to perpetually play second fiddle”.
“We need to think deep, the closest we are to a realistic opportunity of deputy governor is with the candidate of our own son, Lucky Aiyedatiwa”.
“He is the only Ilaje candidate in the leadership contest of a major political party in the upcoming election with a realistic chance of winning and becoming deputy governor of the state. He said.
Also speaking at the event, the Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan, appealed to the people of Ilaje to vote massively for Governor Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa in the forthcoming Ondo State guber.
He said: “I told Mr. Governor to pick his running mate from Ilaje and he did, among 100 persons who are lobbed for the position of deputy governor, and we both agreed that after his 8 years it would be Ilaje’s turn
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Funsho Esan, who also spoke at the event, assured Governor Akeredolu of massive votes of the people of Ilaje.
Chairman, Ilaje LGA, Mr Goke Jatuase, said that residents in Ilaje need to vote massively for Akeredolu in order for the area to produce the next governor after Akeredolu.
Jatuase said the Southern part has produced Agagu as governor for six years, Olusegun Mimiko ruled the state for eight years and Akeredolu who was from the Ondo-North should be re-elected to complete his right years.
Also a representative of Ilaje National Association in USA, Mrs Olufunmilayo Mejo-Olukayode, appreciated the IDSG for coming up with the idea of bringing the Ilaje people together through their focus and development goals for the area.
