Ondo State’s determination to build a digitally savvy generation took centre stage again as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s aide, Mr Olubunmi Ololajulo, hosted the second edition of the Ondo Digital Media Summit in Akure, a platform that fused governance, technology and innovation into a single vision for youth empowerment.
The event, held at the International Event and Cultural Centre (The Dome), brought together media experts, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to examine emerging tech trends and digital challenges confronting the nation.
With the theme “Digital Media and Tech Trends: Harnessing Opportunities, Addressing Challenges and Finding Solutions,” discussions focused on how to position Ondo youths as active players in the global tech space rather than mere consumers of digital products.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr Adekola Falohun, described the initiative as a bold innovation that reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa’s digital transformation agenda. He said the administration’s goal is to ensure that every youth in Ondo State has access to tools that make them globally competitive.
Ololajulo, who convened the summit, said the gathering was not just about conversations but about tangible impact. “Our intention is to connect governance with digital opportunities. This year’s edition proves that Ondo State is not following trends, we are defining them,” he said.
The summit’s keynote speaker, Mr Bayo Rojugbokan, Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), challenged the state to adopt policy frameworks that support digital innovation, inclusive participation and ethical technology use.
Also addressing participants, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, commended the summit for improving media ethics and promoting responsible digital practices. He urged journalists and content creators to focus on credible reporting and constructive civic engagement online.
Panelists, including Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr Johnpaul Akinduro; media expert, Mr Blessing Oripenaye; and OSYN Coordinator, Mr Daniel Dabo, examined how artificial intelligence, digital ethics and monetisation are redefining modern communication.
In what became the highlight of the event, selected tech enthusiasts from the 18 local government areas received laptops and digital devices as part of the empowerment initiative championed by the Aiyedatiwa administration. The devices were presented by the Deputy Governor’s representative on behalf of the state government.
Participants were also trained in digital marketing, content creation and monetisation, while a special session on artificial intelligence demonstrated how AI tools can boost productivity and open up income opportunities.
Another major feature of the summit was a fintech session, where facilitators explored how financial technology could expand local business potential and strengthen economic inclusion.
At the close of the programme, participants resolved to work with the state government in tackling misinformation, advancing digital literacy, and promoting Ondo State’s image through credible online engagement.
The Ondo Digital Media Summit, now in its second year, continues to evolve as a dynamic platform for mentorship, empowerment and policy dialogue, reinforcing Ondo State’s position as a leader in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
