Ondo ICAN celebrates International Accounting Day

Ondo district of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), yesterday joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate this year’s International Accounting Day.

The day started with a health walk in the morning, followed by a lecture on “Sudden Cardiac Death: Prevention and Control”, by Professor Akinbodewa Akinwumi of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.

The health walk saw members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN) and other accounting professionals come together to promote physical fitness and well-being among members.

The walk was not only a means to celebrate the day, but also a way to emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, especially in a profession that often involves long hours of sitting on a desk.

After the health walk, participants gathered at the Association’s hall for the lecture on Sudden Cardiac Death, a topic that is of great relevance to everyone, including accounting professionals.

The guest lecturer, Professor Akinbodewa, delivered an insightful and informative presentation on the causes, symptoms, and prevention of ‘Sudden Cardiac Death’.

In his lecture, the don stressed the importance of recognising the signs of sudden cardiac arrest and knowing how to respond in emergency situations.

He also provided valuable information on how individuals can reduce their risk of experiencing sudden cardiac arrest through lifestyle changes and regular medical check-ups.

The lecture concluded with a question-and-answer session, where participants had the opportunity to engage with the speakers and deepen their understanding of the subject matter.

Speaking at the event, the 29th Chairman of ICAN, Akure and district society, Mr. Atibioke Adeoye emphasised the significance of International Accounting Day in recognizing the vital roles accountants play in the financial world.

He stressed the importance of continuous learning and staying healthy as professionals in the field.

Also, Mr Oke Ezekiel Adeyinka, who also spoke at the event, stressed the importance of staying updated on current issues in the accounting profession.

The event was a reminder of the importance of not only being professionals, but also to ensure personal well-being within the accounting community.
