The Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh (IV), has suspended four chiefs in the town over alleged fraudulent activities.

The monarch also directed the Akoko North-East Local Government to immediately halt the stipends of the affected chiefs, pending further investigations into their alleged misconduct.

The monarch, in a letter to the council chairman, accused the affected chiefs of misconduct that had negatively impacted innocent residents of Ikare-Akoko and its environs.

The suspended chiefs are: Chief Balogun Saheed Ajiromoke Oluusa Ishakunmi of Ikare, Chief Bankole Sunday Ehinmola Olode Aben of Ilepa Ikare, Chief Mogaji Abiodun Olode Sekute of Ilepa Ikare, and Chief Ayuba Salau Ikinola Okoronmu of Ishakunmi Ikare.

Describing their actions as a betrayal of trust, the traditional ruler insisted that their financial entitlements must remain withheld until investigations are concluded and those responsible for the alleged fraud identified.

Part of the letter read, “Their actions constitute gross misconduct and a betrayal of the trust placed in them as traditional leaders.

Given the gravity of the situation, it is imperative that their financial entitlements be withheld until those responsible for the fraudulent activities are identified and justice is served.”

Oba Momoh further urged the local government chairman to confirm receipt of the directive and provide updates on the steps taken in response.
