Ondo inaugurates 30-man team for FG’s health screening project

Ondo state government has inaugurated a 30-man committee for Federal Government initiated programme; “project 10million” for screening of 10million Nigerians for non communicable diseases.

While inaugurating the committee, Commissioner for health,Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka noted that non- communicable Diseases such Diabetes Mellitus and hypertension contributes 27 percent to the mortality rate in the country.

He explained that the programme is to screen at random 10 million Nigerians and 300,000 citizens in Ondo state.

The commissioner described it as a week long program which comes up between 13th and 19th October, 2024 in all the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

Speaking on the committee, he said ” we have to put in place a committee that will plan, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the project and write report. That is where all of you comes in.”

” We are expected to align with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and key stakeholders including developing partners to secure endorsement and resources and also identify and secure central locations in the communities to make sure it is accessible and have space for health stations and education

Chairman of the committee, Permanent Secretary of Ondo State Ministry of Health, Dr Adeniran Ikuomola lauded the effort of the Federal Government while emphasising that the project would go a long way to help the people to know their numbers and also learn how to control it

The committee comprises Permanent Secretaries in the Health Sector, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Executive Secretary,Ondo state Drug and Health Commodities Management Agency, Directors in the Health sector, Chief Medical Directors, Provost of College of Health Technology, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Nigerian Medical Association, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, and Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists among others.
