Ondo INEC begins CVR today

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) kick starts the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Ondo State today ahead of the November 16 governorship election , eligible citizens  have been charged to come out enmasse to participate in the exercise.

The CVR exercise in the  state is to enable eligible citizens who were not registered during the last exercise to do so.

The CVR in the state will take place Monday May 27 to Wednesday June 5, 2024 from 9.00am to 3.00pm daily including the weekend.

In separate interviews with The Hope, All Progressives Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and African Action Congress (AAC) declared their readiness to mobilize party’s members and others to take part in the registration.

Ondo State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Alex Kalejaye urged eligible citizens to come out and take part in the registration.

While explaining the readiness of the party ahead of the election , Kalejaye said “We are merely trying to put our house in order, ahead of November.”

Commenting ,the State Chairman of SDP, Dr.Tope Ajulo, said the party has fully prepared in sensitizing the public on the need to key into the registration.

He said: “We are fully prepared, and doing everything within our power to sensitize the public on the need to register or transfer their voters card to a nearby polling unit

“Transfer and replacement of damage voter’s card are also part of sensitization efforts we are putting in place so that our members can be more prepared to participate in the exercise.”

Also, the State Chairman of ZLP, Comrade Cornelius Akintoye pointed out that the party has mobilized its members across the 18 local governments in the state for the exercise.

“We are on ground for the exercise,” he said

On his part, the State Chairman of (AAC), Comrade Olugbenga Arinkoluwa affirmed that proper awareness for members to register for the exercise and to mobilize others have been perfected

“Our members are well conscious of this and also working on people..

“Sure, all this are part of our regular awareness to the people of the state,”he noted

The Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas in the State, Sheikh Ahmad Aladesawe called on all Imams in the state to sensitize their congregation on the need to partake in the exercise .

In a statement signed and issued by the General Secretary of the association, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Akerele, the chairman directed all Imams in the state to take the advantage of last Jumat service in educating eligible Muslims whose Permanent Voters Cards have lost, defaced or mutilated as well as those that have attained the age of 18 years to go to their various wards in the 18 councils of the state and partake in the exercise in order to get a new voter’s card.

The statement read ” All the Jumaat Imams, Ratibi Imams as well as leaders of Islamic organisations are advised to stress its importance in their engagement with their congregation starting from Friday May 24, 2024 during the khutbah.

“Leaders of Mosques and Islamic Organisations should also facilitate how this exercise will be easy and realised by the Muslims in the state.”

It would be recalled that the State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the INEC, Mrs.Oluwatoyin Babalola had during a stakeholders’ meeting said the execrice will commence throughoit the state from 9am to 3pm daily including the weekends and public holidays at registration area level and state office.

“This means that there will be 210 walk-in registration centres in Ondo State,which include our state office in Akure ,as there will be no online pre-registeration for fresh registration this time in the state due to time constraints,” she explained

The REC said that those who are registered voters also have the opportunity to transfer their registration from other states of the federation to the state or from one location to another within the state.
