Ondo kicks off free Hepatitis B treatment

By Kemi Olatunde

The Ondo State Government has commenced free treatment for 250 patients with confirmed cases of Hepatitis B.

This gesture is part of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Hepatitis B and C elimination programme.

While addressing the beneficiaries in Akure the Special Adviser to the governor on Health, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, commended  Governor, Aiyedatiwa, for his commitment to improving the health of residents.

He explained that the governor is determined to eliminate Hepatitis B in the state, adding that the programme, which began in 2024, is currently being implemented in six local government areas.

He noted that some major medical tests, which had previously hindered access to treatment, are now being conducted at no cost. The free treatment for Hepatitis B has commenced immediately.

Prof. Odimayo urged more people to participate in the programme and reassured that efforts are underway to expand it to other local government areas, ensuring broader coverage across the state.
