The need for Lawmakers to imbibe sound and improved health practices to enhance efficient legislative performance has been stressed.
Health-care experts emphasised this at the opening of a three-day workshop on health and wellness, for Ondo State House of Assembly legislators, in Akure.
The health experts took the lawmakers through healthy practices and habits necessary to prepare them for sound and effective legislative work.
Delivering the lecture with the theme, “Relaxation and Stress Reduction”, Professor John Adeogun harped on the need for adequate rest to improve the health.
He also stressed the need for them to take brief walks around their offices or homes, and gently stretch the muscles very often to help relieve muscle tension.
Professor Wole Akeredolu in a lecture, emphasised on regular physical activity, saying it improves muscle strength, and gives more energy to tackle daily chores.
Dr Adeyinka Modupe who spoke on the topic, “Manage the Legislators Health” pointed out enough sleep, lots of water intake, balanced diet and regular breaks during long meeting sessions and hearings as ways to keep them healthy.
Modupe also urged them to take routine medical checks seriously to enable them know their health status and act promptly if they need help.
Earlier, while declaring the session open, Speaker of the House, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun commended the organisers of the workshop for taking their time to organize the programme for the legislators.
The Speaker noted that the workshop was meant to expose, educate and enlighten the legislators on best health management practices considering the enormity of their schedule in their services to the people.
Oleyelogun observed that the workshop was timely and well conceived coming up at a time when most of the Lawmakers would be combining electioneering with their primary assignment of lawmaking.
He was optimistic that the gains of the workshop would be felt even after their current legislative experience.
The workshop was attended by the 25 Lawmakers drawn from the state constituencies.
