An 18-year-old man, Emmanuel Oloye, has been arraigned before an Iwaro-Oka Magistrate Court for allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle valued at ₦1,390,000.
Oloye, who was subsequently remanded, disrupted court proceedings by making incoherent statements without being prompted to speak.
The police arraigned the defendant before Magistrate B. A. Ikusika on a two-count charge of attempted theft and escaping lawful custody.
According to the prosecution, the offences were committed on January 14, 2025, around 5:00 PM at Obada Street, Owalusi, Iwaro-Oka Akoko, and later at Akua Quarters, Akungba, Ondo State.
Inspector Boboye Olasunkanmi, the prosecutor, informed the court that Oloye attempted to steal an unregistered Boxer motorcycle with chassis number MD2A18AX0RWG74877 and engine number DUXWRD69226, valued at ₦1,390,000. The motorcycle belonged to one Olukare Shina Olubada.
Olasunkanmi further alleged that the defendant escaped lawful custody by jumping over a fence but was later recaptured.
The offences contravene Sections 508 and 135(b) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The prosecutor requested an adjournment to study the case file and gather witnesses for the trial.
The defendant had no legal representation.
Magistrate B. A. Ikusika ordered Oloye’s remand and adjourned the case to January 25, 2025.
