Ondo monarch seeks urgent intervention over incessant kidnapping

By Adeboye Ado

The Olupenmen of Upenmen in Owo local government, Oba Adewumi Ebenezer Ogunmolasuyi has called on security agencies to strengthen security architecture in the agrarian community.

The monarch who made the call during a telephone interview on Monday, disclosed that the community has adopted traditional and know-your-tenants methods to curb the incessant kidnapping the area.

He said, “there is nothing more important to me right now than strengthening security in this area. While the community is already making efforts, we are taking two key approaches.

“First, we are relying on traditional methods that have been effective in handling such situations. Second, we have introduced the “Know Your Tenants” initiative, alongside the “see something, say something” campaign, to encourage vigilance and proactive reporting of suspicious activities.

“Regarding the recent unfortunate incident, I express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

“It is truly heartbreaking to lose such a young, promising, and enterprising member of our community, someone whose contributions were valuable to our collective growth.

“His loss is deeply felt, and we stand with his family during this difficult time. This incident has further heightened our commitment to security.

In response, we have reached out to the relevant authorities. The Commissioner of Police has visited and assured us patrols in the area.

The Nigerian Army Brigadier has also pledged military patrols, while the NSCDC, Amotekun, and other security agencies have committed to working together to prevent recurrence of such an incident.

“With all hands on deck, we are determined to ensure the safety of our community and prevent such an ugly occurrence in the future,” Oba Ogunmolasuyi said.
