The Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has unveiled an elaborate programme of events for its 2025 NAWOJ Week, designed to celebrate journalistic excellence and foster camaraderie among women media practitioners in the state.

The week-long celebration, which runs from Sunday, April 13 to Thursday, April 17, 2025, features a blend of spiritual, sporting, recreational, and honourary activities tailored to reflect the dynamism and resilience of women in journalism.

Activities will commence on Sunday, April 13, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Favour Generation Church, Fanibi, Akure, by 10:00 a.m. Members are expected to converge for worship and reflection on their collective journey and achievements.

On Tuesday, April 15, attention will shift to the sports arena where members of NAWOJ will engage the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in a friendly novelty football match. The encounter, billed to take place at the Ijapo Estate Field by 4:00 p.m., is aimed at promoting fitness, unity, and healthy rivalry among professional women.

As part of efforts to provide a relaxing break from the rigours of daily work, a “Girls’ Time Out” has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, at the FUTA Botanical Garden by 4:00 p.m. The event promises an atmosphere of bonding, fun, and rejuvenation.

The curtain will fall on the celebration on Thursday, April 17, with a two-part grand finale. The morning session will feature the Investiture of the Ondo NAWOJ Matron and the launch of a commemorative book at the NUJ Press Centre, Adegbemile, Akure, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Speaking on the significance of the week, Chairperson of Ondo NAWOJ, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi, said the event is more than a mere tradition, describing it as a rallying point for reflection, connection, and motivation.

“NAWOJ Week is a platform to reconnect, reflect on our journey, and inspire each other. We’re looking forward to full participation from our members and supporters,” she stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade Foluke Amodu, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness, assuring that the activities have been thoughtfully curated to embody the spirit of inclusiveness and celebration.

“This year’s activities are designed to be meaningful, inclusive, and enjoyable, all reflecting the spirit and resilience of women in journalism,” she said.
