Ondo NNPP suspends its guber candidate, running mate, chieftain

By Sade Adewale

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has indefinitely suspended its Ondo State governorship candidate, Olugbenga Edema, his running mate, Barrister Rotimi Adeyemi, and a party chieftain, Mr. Isreal Oluwatosin Ayeni.

The suspension was announced following a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held in Akure on Monday, March 3, 2025.

Addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Akure, the State Chairman of the party, Pastor Peter Olagookun, stated that the trio were sanctioned for violating the party’s constitution.

“We, the State Working Committee of the NNPP Ondo State chapter, hereby announce the indefinite suspension of Olugbenga Edema, our governorship candidate in the just-concluded election; Barrister Rotimi Adeyemi, the deputy governorship candidate; and Mr. Isreal Oluwatosin Ayeni,” Olagookun declared.

He outlined three key reasons for their suspension: filing legal actions in the party’s name without consulting relevant stakeholders at both state and national levels, bypassing internal conflict resolution mechanisms before taking legal action, and engaging in anti-party activities.

Reiterating the importance of party discipline, NNPP State Secretary, Comrade Adekunle Oluwayomi, emphasised that no member would be allowed to misuse the party’s name.

Ondo Central Senatorial Chairman, Dr. Tunde Adejuyigbe, and Ondo North Senatorial Chairman, Akpata Johnson, backed the decision, stating that it was in line with the party’s constitution and the best course of action under Pastor Olagookun’s leadership.
