The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and its regulatory bodies in Ondo State have tasked contractors handling the state government’s road projects to adhere strictly to the regulations of the engineering profession for quality projects to be achieved.

Besides, the professional body commended the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration for its giant strides in  roads construction in the state.

Members of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Engineer Regulations Monitoring (ERM) as the regulatory bodies of the NSE, led by their leaders in the state stated this while on an on the spot assessment visit to the state governments road projects in Akure.

Some of the inspected projects are the ongoing dualization of 650 metre ‘A’ Division/High Court road, construction of 6.446 metre at Akin Akingbola -State Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbaka road and construction of Oke-Ogba roads all in Akure.

Speaking with The Hope, the State Chairman of NSE, Engr. Christianah ljagbemi, said the visit became necessary for the association to ensure that contractors and engineers handling projects follow professional regulations to avoid collapse of projects.

Ijagbemi expressed satisfaction with the level of work done at Oke-Ogba road construction and urged the contractor handling the project to expedite action as the rainy season is approaching.

The Chairman who observed that the thickness of the Akingbola to SCID road is not enough as it can be destroyed by heavy vehicles, told the contractor to increase its thickness for the state to have quality road in the area.

ljagbemi, who observed that workers met at the project sites are not safety conscious, advised them to protect themselves always to avoid unforeseen accident while on  duty.

On his part, the State Chairman of Engineer Regulation Monitoring (ERM), Engr. Dele Ogunwolere, described the ongoing roads constructions in the state as an indication of attention by the government to its residents.

He commended the contractors handling the projects for complying with the profession’s regulations and standard.

Also, the Chairman of COREN in the state, Engr. Tomide Akinnawo, charged contractors of all the projects to put in place necessary measures and deliver durable projects for the state.

Reacting to the visit, the Project Coordinator of the dualization of ‘A’ Division High Court road, Engr. Seriki Adamu, described the visit by the team as an eye -opener to engineers on site to be up and doing, adding that the observation and recommendation by the team will be looked into.
