The pig village being constructed by the Ondo state Government at Ilutoro Ala, for pig farmers will soon be ready for commissioning.
Chairman of the Ondo state Pig farmers Association, Mr Francis Dasho made this known in an interview with The Hope , in Akure.
Dasho disclosed that the building is at 80 percent completion, saying the state is waiting for the Germans who will do the fittings.
He said the Pig Village which has about six buildings will get its fittings completed within a week .
According to him, the Pig Village which would be a show business would also be used for the production of what he called special breed of piglets to be sold to the citizens.
Pig business, he stressed, is very lucrative as the consumers who are mainly from the Eastern part of the country can book for over 200 at once.
“It is the tradition of the Eastern people to kill a pig for the burial of their old ones. They kill and share it fresh. Even if 100 cows were killed, without a pig, they do not appreciate such burial,”
“We have good market for our pigs in Ondo state and we are still aspiring to have more. People bring 911 to buy pigs from us apart from those who buy to retail within the streets in the state,” he said.
Dasho said the cost of their feed (MPK) has shoot up to N2,000 per bag as against N200 when he began the business.
He however applauded the state government for recognising them for the construction of the pig village.
